"Women Golfing to End Breast Cancer and Support Women's Health"

May 26th, 2011 marked the 19th year for the Betty Thompson Golf Classic hosted by the Zonta Club of Kitchener - Waterloo.  This premier ladies golf tournament is named to honour Betty Thompson, a dynamic charter member of our Club who was a local television personality and community champion.  Betty was diagnosed with breast cancer is 1991 and passed away in 1994.  Proceeds from this popular event are used to help support breast cancer programs and other women’s health programs in our community.

With the support of local businesses, donors and golfers, the 2011 event raised close to $45,000.  The funds will be donated to: Grand River Hospital Foundation for breast biopsy isotopes; to purchase camisoles for mastectomy patients for distribution through HopeSpring; to the MS Society for the development of 3 seminars for women with MS; to HopeSpring for the purchase of wigs; to St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation for a program in the Waterloo Region Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Treatment Centre; and to Breaststrokes Dragon Boat Team to assist with the purchase of life jackets.

We are proud that the proceeds of this tournament are used to support local programs in our community, which are helping to make a difference in the lives of women.

If in the future you would like to be part of this very worthwhile event through sponsorship at any level, please contact cwordley@rogers.com for more information.

Registration packages are mailed out by March 31 to previous golfers and diners (past 3 years).
