Young Women in Public Affairs Award

Zonta's Young Women in Public Affairs Award (YWPA) is presented annually to a pre-university or pre-college female student (16 to 19 years old) who has shown commitment to public service and who has demonstrated leadership skills. Past winners have shown an active commitment to volunteerism and have had experience in local or student government. The goal of the YWPA program is to encourage more young women to participate in public affairs. Public affairs refer to all aspects of community life where decisions have to be made about issues which relate to and affect those communities in which we work and live. The competition begins locally with the Zonta Club of Kitchener-Waterloo awarding $750 to the winning candidate. Her name is then forwarded on to the District level where she competes for a prize of $US 1000.00 which is provided by the Zonta International Foundation. The District winner then earns the opportunity to compete for one of five Zonta International awards of US$3,000.
