Young Women in Public Affairs Award
The goal of Zonta 's Annual Young Women in Public Affairs Award Program is to recognize pre-university or pre-college women students ' commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and dedication to the advancement of the status of women and thus to encourage women to enter careers in public affairs, politics, public policy, and community organizations. The competition begins at a local level with our local Zonta Club awarding $750 to our selected candidate, who then goes on to compete at the District level. The Zonta International Foundation provides awards of US$1,000 for each District recipient. The district winner then earns the opportunity to compete for one of five Zonta International awards of US$3,000. The Club's 2010 recipient was Hannah Miller of Rockway Mennonite Collegiate

Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship
SCHOLARSHIP PURPOSE
The Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship is open to women enrolled in
an undergraduate degree in business, leading to a business management career.
The program is designed to encourage undergraduate women to enter careers and to
seek leadership positions in business-related field in their communities and
throughout the world. The goal is to provide opportunities for women to
influence business decisions that positively affect women, by increasing the
number of women in executive positions in the field of business management.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
The local scholarship winner receives a cash award of $750 from the Zonta Club
of Kitchener-Waterloo and a certificate. The winner's application is forwarded
to the District level to be assessed against other Club winners in the
District. The District winner will receive an award of $500US and her name will
be submitted to the International level, to be considered for one of 12 potential
scholarships, each valued at $5,000US.
APPLICATION QUALIFICATIONS
Application
forms are now available from this website. To apply for the scholarship, a woman
must meet the following minimum requirements:
1. Be eligible to enter the third or fourth year of a business-related
undergraduate degree program (first university degree) at an accredited
university/college/institute at the time the funds are received.
2. Have achieved an outstanding academic record during the first two-three years
of academic studies.
3. Demonstrate intent to complete a program in business and show outstanding
achievement in business-related subjects, as recorded on the official
university/college/ institute transcript.
4. Request one confidential letter of recommendation from a faculty member in
the major field of study and one confidential letter of recommendation from an
employer, volunteer supervisor, or academic advisor.
5. Submit an application form and essay which clearly describes immediate and future academic and
career goals and how the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship will
assist in meeting those goals.
6. Submit verification of enrollment from the university/college/institute registrar.

2010 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT The 2010 Club Recipient was Holly Sullivan, a 3rd year Co-op Honours Business Administration student specializing in Supply Chain Management. Holly would like to work for a few years, then obtain her Masters designation and eventually have the experience to become an expert consultant. Holly has been on the Dean’s list at WLU and this year received a prestigious TSI Group Scholars Award, which is given for exceptional grades and sincere intent to pursue a career in supply chain management. Holly is a mentor for first year business students and first year co-op students. She is also an active volunteer at the Laurier Women’s Centre where she holds weekly office hours and participates in social education and activism. She also tutors a child in reading from the community. The 2009 club winner was Mirna Gerges, a third year student at the University
of Waterloo, studying Co-op Accounting and Financial Management. The 2008 award winner Jody Grewal, also a University
of Waterloo Co-op Accounting and Financial Management student was chosen
as both the District 4 winner with a $500 US award and an International
level winner, receiving a $5000 US scholarship. The 2007 Club recipient was Krista Cressman, a 2nd
year Honours Business Co-Op student at Wilfrid Laurier University. Two
former Zonta Club of Kitchener-Waterloo winners were also chosen at the
next levels. The 2006 Club recipient Julie Mitchell, an Honours Business
student at Wilfrid Laurier University was chosen as both the District 4
winner and an International level winner.
In 2005, Eva Reddington, also an Honours BBA student at Wilfrid
Laurier University, was chosen as both the Club and the District 4 winner. |
Amelia Earhart Fellowships Honour Canadian Aerospace Research

The Zonta
International Amelia Earhart Fellowship Awards were established in 1938 in
honor of Amelia Earhart, famed pilot and Zontian. Thirty-five to forty fellowships are awarded each year. Fellowships of $10,000US
each are granted annually by Zonta International to women pursuing PhD
/doctoral degrees in aerospace-related sciences and aerospace-related
engineering. Applicants must be registered at a university or college offering accredited post-graduate degrees and must demonstrate a superior academic record.

Women of Achievement Award
Each year the Zonta Club of Kitchener-Waterloo celebrates and recognizes female citizens (age 55+), especially those who have made a difference to our community and heritage with special emphasis on professional, business and volunteer contributions.
This year’s Women of Achievement Awards Presentation and Dinner was held on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at the University of Waterloo in The Laurel Room and honoured Jean Becker, Jean Weiler, Karen Redman and Sheila Sullivan.
